I don’t mean our physical beating hearts, but our hearts as the centre of our being, the place where our thoughts and emotions spring from.  Many times our hearts respond rightly – we rejoice in good gifts we enjoy, we ache at injustice and we have compassion on those hurting around us.  Yet at other times our hearts just aren’t in it.  We don’t feel excited about things we should feel excited about, we don’t feel grieved about things we should and sometimes our hearts even stop us from receiving words of advice that deep down we know we needed to hear.

At MAKE, we’re going to be hearing talks from the book of Deuteronomy.  It’s a book about life, as God explains how his people were to live thousands of years ago.  And through it, God has a message for us, thousands of years later, about our hearts.  He cares about where our are heart is at.  And he knows that ultimately we can’t make our hearts work right.  So he wants us to look to him to change our hearts, to soften our hearts – to ultimately give us new hearts.

Here’s a video sermon we listened to last Sunday at church about planning from the book of Proverbs.   It’s got lots of great practical stuff to help you think about planning.  Also this Sunday we’ll be hearing from John Spranklin, currently a student at Sydney Missionary and Bible College, who’ll speak to us from the book of James about planning, pride and wealth.

Both biblical books in their own way encourage us to have humility in our planning.  They help us to realise that God is the only one whose plans always work out.  The key is to not have our confidence and self-worth in our plans and whether they work out.  But instead to trust God’s plan – his Son crucified for us.

So, this Sunday, the 27th of November, we have a VENUE CHANGE and will be meeting at 4pm in the Whitsunday Anglican College Chapel, Celeber Drive, North Mackay - we are unable to use the library this week.

Then the weekend after, we’re very excited to be part of the  Northern Beaches Christmas Carols, Sunday the 4th of December.  We’re cancelling our normal service to be able to be involved with the Carols, so this will be a VENUE/TIME CHANGE, with BBQ starting at 5:30pm  and Carols themselves at 6.30pm@ Eimeo Road State School.

Then from the 11th of December we’ll be back to normal, including our CHRISTMAS SERVICE, Sunday 25th December, 4pm @ the Gordon White Library.

It’s a simple yet very practical way that you can help have a profound impact on a child.  It involves grabbing a shoebox, wrapping it in colourful paper, deciding if you will pack it for a boy or girl (and what age) and the fun part, filling it wih a variety of simple gifts.

Some of the project’s outcome’s…

• Children are shown they are valued and will be encouraged that there are people who love and care for them.
• Greater expression of unity amongst churches that are networked together through the project.
• The impact of other locally birthed projects such as the building of schools deepened as our local partners work alongside the communities.

Why not become part of this project with us?  Grab a shoebox and start packing!  Collection date at church will be 16th Oct.  Don’t forget to pray for the child that will be receiving your box as you are sourcing gifts and packing your box.

It seems strange, even impossible these days to talk about being one big happy family with any kind of seriousness.  Especially in reference to church.  Maybe it doesn’t even sound appealing because we’ve only had poor experiences of family.  But God’s vision of one big happy family under a Perfect Father is, I think, something very desirable.

At church on Sunday’s, we’ve been slowly working our way through Ephesians.  A great letter with a great vision of what God is up to at this stage in human history.  Ephesians 1:10 sums it up well  - ‘to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ’ (NIV).

It’s a vision to bring together a new community.  A community that’s united, that’s for each other and that’s living with honesty and integrity.  And of course, that kind of community only comes when it’s centred around someone who is true to themselves, who doesn’t have any inconsistencies and who loves others deeply – ie. God:  Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

Over the next period at church, we’ll go from this big picture vision to the details.  Why not come along and hear from God with us, about his plan to create one big happy family?
