Leading Aussies

A mate gave me some great insights the other day into leading Aussie’s well. Culturally Aussies will follow on the basis of relationships more than anything else. They are less likely to follow the leader out in front and more likely to follow the leader who is beside them. What that means for Aussie leaders and pastors is that the best plans, vision, direction and programmes will come to nothing if you’re not able to really get beside your congregation. You need to build a team more than going out ahead. It means being a servant, loving and affirming your brothers and sisters in Christ is as important as having direction and vision. Personally I’m great with knowing what we need to do, what the plan is, how to get there, but really need to grow as a shepherd, affirmer and servant. Really this is just servant leadership. It’s what Jesus modelled and calls us to be in the Church, in our homes and in our workplaces.

Mate, these are great thoughts. I can totally relate this to my situation and agree 100%. In a culture where a $250 car service is of equal value to a slab of beer and a mate to drink it with, we need to take advantage of a culture that craves the close bonding of mates. It's so important to lead Aussies by example and there is no better way to do that then giving them our time building up those around you to go out and share the gospel! http://thedirtyrword.wordpress.com
